Regional Semifinal vs BHS

Oct. 21st, 2014 (11:00 am)

The Pioneers soccer team is looking forward to the start of the IHSA playoffs after an up and down season. UHigh had plenty of close games throughout the season, with another one happening last week against Morton High School. With the score tied at 2-2 midway through the 2nd half, UHigh could not hold on as the Potters put in 2 unanswered goals against them. UHigh got goals from Jaik Hunt and Michael Juarez.

Now the team has its eye's set on Bloomington High School in the first round of the playoffs. This will be the third meeting between the teams, with the first game ending in a 0-0 draw, and the second match ending 4-2 in favor of UHigh. The match is on Tuesday night at 6:30pm at Normal West High School.

Jacksonville Tournament: 3rd Place

Oct. 11th, 2014 (11:00 am)

UHigh turned in a strong performance over the weekend in the Jacksonville Tournament, earning 3rd place with a record of 2 and 1. In the first contest, UHigh faced Regional opponent, Lincoln High School. The Pioneers won 7-0, getting goals by Zach Ciesielski (2), Calum Smith (2), Jaik Hunt, Matt Napolitano, and Danny Cole. Cole also recorded 2 assists in the match.

Semifinal: In the semifinal, UHigh faced Rochester High School, in a rematch from 3 weeks ago. The game was tight again, and the Pioneers jumped to an early lead off a Michael Juarez shot. The lead was short lived though, as Rochester answered, tieing the match at 1-1. Halfway through the second half, a Rochester player found some space in the box and hit a shot on goal. the shot was deflected and went in, making it 2-1. UHigh had several other chances but could not capitalize as they poured players forward. The match ended 2-1.

Third Place: The Pioneers and Bloomington High School faced each other for the second time this season, the first ending in a 0-0 draw. This time, UHigh jumped to a 3-0 lead on goals by Jaik Hunt, Matt Napolitano, and Calum Smith. BHS came roaring back, with two goals of their own to make it 3-2 with 15 minutes left. Matt WIttman finished the scoring with a long freekick. The match ended 4-2 in UHigh's favor, earing them 3rd place.

UHigh and PND Battle to a Draw

UHigh faced local rival, Peoria Notre Dame on Thursday night, and it turned out to be a classic. 5 minutes into the match, UHigh's Jaik Hunt found Matt Wittman on the back post. Wittman calmly put it away, making it 1-0 UHigh. Within minutes, PND answered with a goal of their own from a scramble in the box. At halftime, the score 1-1. The second half was the same, with chances coming for both teams. Neither team could find the net, and the match ended 1-1. Shots were 12-8 in favor of PND.

On The Road

Sept 26th, 2014 (11:00 am)

The Pioneers were on the road on Saturday and Thursday against Quincy Notre Dame and Dunlap High School. In Quincy, a Matt Napolitano header knotted the game at 1-1 early in the second half. QND struck back and took the lead for good late in the half with a shot from 25 yards out that found the back of the net. Several opportunities were missed late by Uhigh, who dropped the contest 2-1. In Dunlap, UHigh again found themselves down in the second half but quickly regained their focus. Matt Wittman crossed a ball in that found the back of the net to tie the score at 1-1 with 25 minutes left. 2 minutes later, Wittman took a corner that Danny Cole nodded in to take the lead 2-1. Just minutes later, Dunlap equalized on a long throw in that squeaked by goalie Christian Lopez. The game ended at 2-2. UHigh plays on Saturday against East Moline.

UHigh Finds Scoring Late

Sept 14th, 2014 (11:00 am)

The match between Galesburg and UHigh looked like it would be a low scoring affair after UHigh was turned back several times by Galesburg's defense. UHigh controlled much of the match but was unable to score in the first half. With just 10 minutes remaining, JD Carr found the ball with some space on the right wing. His cross into the box came back out off the post and right to Matt Napolitano, who headed it home. 8 minutes later, Zack Ciesielski layed a nice pass off to Jett Jenkins, who finished calmly, putting UHigh up 2-0. The win was UHigh's 3rd this season. Christian Lopez had the shutout in goal, and has only allowed 4 goals past him in the last 6 games..

UHigh, Centennial, Draw

Sept 9th, 2014 (11:00 am)

The contest between Champaign Centennial and UHigh was tight throughout until Centennial broke through with only 35 seconds left in the first half. A close range shot found the back corner, putting Centennial up 1-0 going into half. The second half was much different. UHigh came out with more focus and intensity; trying hard to tie the score. Finally, Jaik Hunt took a freekick about 35 yards out that found the head of Danny Cole. Cole put it away, knotting the score at 1-1 with 5 minutes remaining. UHigh had one more chance with just seconds remaining. Matt Wittman's volley found the back of the net, but was 2 seconds too late, ending the contest as a draw. UHigh is in action on Thursday night at Mahomet-Seymour.

2 Shutouts

Sept 8th, 2014 (11:00 am)

Central Catholic came to UHigh's field on Thursday night, only to be turned away by the Pioneers, 4-0. The Pioneers got goals by Matt Wittman (2), Michael Juarez, and Matt Napolitano. The shutout was a combined goalkeeping effort by Christian Lopez and Michael Napolitano. On Saturday, the Pioneers played their final intercity match against Bloomington High School at Community Fields. UHigh was unable to score despite outshooting BHS 28-4. The contest ended in a 0-0 draw. UHigh is in action tonite against Champaign Centennial.

A Loss and A Win

Sept 6th, 2014 (11:00 am)

After an opening game loss in the intercity tournament (0-4 to NCHS), the Pioneers looked to rebound in an intercity clash with close rival Normal West. The game was very close in the first half, with the momentum swinging each way. UHigh broke through first at the 20 minute mark when Jaik Hunt found himself some space on the left wing. The keeper came out to challenge and Hunt quickly played a ball to Calum Smith for the open netter. The second half was very similar and with 15 minutes left, Normal West equalized with a shot from 30 yards out on the right side that found the opposite corner of the net. With 8 minutes left, UHigh pressed the action to possibly get a game winner. Jaik Hunt found himself in some space outside 20 yards from the Normal West goal, but was fouled, giving UHigh a freekick. Matt Wittman quickly took the freekick before Normal West was set up, slotting the shot into the lower right corner, giving UHigh a 2-1 intercity win.

Rain Out

Aug 29th, 2014 (11:00 am)

The Pioneers had their game against Morton rained out on Thursday night. The game will be rescheduled to a future date. The UHigh Junior Varsity found themselves in an early 0-1 deficit to Morton. With ten minutes to go, Perry Lim poked the ball away from a Morton defender and hit a shot off the post and in, knotting the game at 1-1. Directly after the goal, the game was called due to lightning, ending the contest as a draw.

Rough Start

Aug 27th, 2014 (11:00 pm)

The Pioneers faced a tough opponent on the road in Danville High School on Tuesday night. After a delay for lightening, the Danville Vikings took a 1-0 lead into halftime. 5 minutes into the half, Calum Smith took a throw in from Matt Wittman, dribbled into the box, and hit a volley past the Danville keeper to tie the game. Minutes later, Danville took the lead back with a rebound goal in the box. With only 15 minutes remaining, Calum Smith again found the net, after receiving a nice through ball from Tyler Oitker. Danville struck two back in the final minutes to give the Pioneers an opening game loss, 4-2. UHigh plays again on Thursday night at Morton.

Season Starting

Camp Schedule

Apr 11th, 2014 (8:00 am)

Important dates for the upcoming 2014 season are already right around the corner. Below is a list of events you need to know about. The camp is open for 8th graders all the way to seniors in high school who are already attending UHigh or thinking about attending.

- Summer Runs: Monday and Wednesday Nights starting on June 2nd (meet at the front of school)
- Open Field Scrimmages: June 8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th (7-8pm, UHigh Soccer Field)
- Conditioning Week: July 7th - 11th (5pm-6pm), July 10th and 11th will be at Jersey Hill
- Skills Week: July 14th - 17th (5-7pm, Goalie Training from 4-5pm)
- Alumni and Cookout Game: July 18th (5-7pm, Alumni: wear a dark shirt)
- Skills Week: July 21st - 24th (5-7pm, Goalie Training from 4-5pm)
- Green and White Scrimmage: July 25th (5-7pm)
- Fall Sports Meeting: July 30th (6pm)

Regional Champions

Oct 26th, 2013 (8:00 pm)

Regional Semifinal: UHigh jumped all over Reed-Custer High School in the first round of the IHSA playoffs, winning 12-0. Goals were scored by Connor Brooks (4), Basheer Becerra (3), Matt Wittman, Hunter Somers, Riley Potter, Connor Hari, and Mikael Ayele.

Regional Final: The Pioneers faced a crosstown rival, Bloomington High School, for the Regional Championship on Friday night. Both teams were very aggressive from the start, trying to wrestle the momentum away from each other with chances on both ends. UHigh found a breakthrough goal when Hunter Somers played a pass to Matt Wittman. Wittman touched the ball into space and hit a shot past the BHS goalie from about 25 yards out. Within minutes after Wittman's goal, the Pioneers struck again. Goalie Andrew Kamischke hit a long punt that found Connor Brooks in a 1 on 1 situation with the keeper. Brooks finished the play with his 21st goal of the season. In the 2nd half, Calum Smith dribbled into the box and was taken down by a BHS defender. Hunter Somers scored on the penalty shot to end the scoring at 3-0. Andrew Kamischke recorded his 7th shutout of the season.
