Lopez volleyed the ball in making it 2-1 in favor of UHigh. Peoria Christian kept fighting back, and found an equalizer on a long shot to tie the game again (2-2). With ten minutes left, PC received a corner kick and was able to score on it after a miscommunication by UHigh on the front post. UHigh had a couple other late chances but could not equalize to send the game into overtime. UHigh ends their season 24-1-1 with only 16 goals against and 105 goals scored throughout the season. UHigh Overcomes Normal Community

Sept. 1st, 2015 (8:00 am)

The UHigh Men's Soccer team got the result they were looking for against crosstown rival Normal Community High School in game 1 of the Intercity Tournament. The first 20 minutes proved to be too much for Normal, as the Pioneers knotted three goals and held on for the win. Matt Napolitano got on the board first by collecting a through ball from Calum Smith and beating the NCHS goalkeeper on the 10 minute mark. Minutes later, Napolitano struck again when Calum Smith dribbled to the end line and found Napolitano wide open 12 yards out. Napolitano finished the play with his second goal of the game. At the 20 minute mark, Danny Cole found space in the box and Calum Smith set up his teammate again, making it 3-0. NCHS gathered a late goal before halftime and another goal right after halftime to make the last 30 minutes very intense. NCHS had several close calls but the Pioneer defense and Christian Lopez in goal were able to hold them off for the remainder of the match. Game 2 for the Intercity Tournament will be against Bloomington High School at home on Wednesday night (4:30pm). Come out and support the Pioneers!

UHigh Ties Peoria Notre Dame

Aug 30th, 2015 (10:00 am)

UHigh went to Peoria Notre Dame on Saturday night to play the 25th nationally ranked Irish. The game ended 1-1 but not without excitement or drama. Calum Smith got on the scoring sheet first when Matt Napolitano picked a pass off from a PND defender and poked the ball to Smith. Smith put away his opportunity in the 20th minute, making it 1-0. For the next 50 minutes, the game shifted back and forth with both teams coming close to scoring. Freshman Cayden Redd hit the crossbar with 20 minutes remaining and goalkeeper Christian Lopez made several key saves to hold off PND's attack. With ten minutes remaining, UHigh received a red card and was forced to play down a man for the remainder of the match. With 8 seconds remaining, the Irish were able to loft a ball into the box, creating a scramble situation that they converted, ending the game at 1-1. The last three matches against PND have all ended in 1-1 draws. The Pioneers play their next game at home against Normal Community High School at 4:30pm.

UHigh JV: 0-2L.
